We Are This City, Home@Uptown Apartments and Cloud Face are collaborating to do a community art project and mural. This is an unprecedented opportunity for community members to have a stake in a permanent mural in Uptown by participating in the creation. Kids of all ages are invited to come throw balloons of paint and spray fire extinguishers filled with paint at a 60×20 foot wall which will be a backdrop for a mural that local artist Cloud Face will paint after the community has their fun.
The community project is open to anyone who would like to participate in the creation. This project allows our community to not only develop a sense of pride in place but also gives people the opportunity to engage with others in our community in a fun and productive way.
The community is encouraged to put on their painting clothes on and come down for this unique event. Not only will people have a chance to get messy with paint but We Are This City will be facilitating fun/participative activities throughout the day with community members, encouraging people to engage with each other.
The community project and mural will be facilitated by We Are This City, the leading community arts organization in Albuquerque. We Are This City partners with over 150 local artists to bring fun and engaging projects to our local environment as well as works with businesses to creatively make art and show art at a local level. This project draws on the importance of bringing people together to participate and engage in the creation of large scale art projects. This allows for the people of our community to have a sense of pride and ownership in the art that is being created here in our beautiful city.
“We Are This City is excited to collaborate with Home@Uptown Apartments and Cloud Face on a project that brings our local community together and gives everyone a chance to have fun and do something highly impactful and creative,” said Max Baptiste, Executive Director of We Are This City. “Working with local businesses and artists to do high impact projects like Let’s Paint Uptown reinforces using art as a way to engage our community to share in our cultural heritage on a local level.”
“We are thrilled to be working with We Are This City and Cloud Face to do such a creative and community oriented project such as Let’s Paint Uptown,” said Monick Halm, owner of Home@Uptown Apartments. “It is important that we continue to engage the community in new ways while promoting our local artists and our community.”
“Working with We Are This City is always fun for me, it allows me to take part in projects that I don’t always get a chance to do and it gives me the opportunity to be a part of my community in a much more intimate way,” explains the artist Cloud Face. “If you have never done a We Are This City project, I highly recommend you come out for this event, they are truly unique experiences.”
