ABQ Balloon Blast – 2015

STEP 1: MAKE A MESS!

A post shared by #WeAreThisCity (@wearethiscity) on

In September 2015, We Are This City in collaboration with CiQlovia and 24 Hours of Art hosted a community-driven event titled “ABQ BALLOON BLAST” in which more than 70 youth and families participated. This interactive art experience invited community members to participate in fun, celebratory exchange while creating abstract art by throwing balloons filled with paint at a designated building and ten 4’x8’ panels. These panels were then cut into 2’x2’ sections and distributed, by invitation, amongst 75 artists to add their creative vision.

STEP 3: EXHIBIT THE WORK

Tractor Brewing Company & We Are This City Present:All Things Craft
Shop and Stroll Launch of a Market And Space That is Extra Special

Hey Albuquerque, we hope you are keeping warm in the changing weather. We also hope that it doesn’t get too cold, too fast. We have a big night coming up just short of a month from now: Shop and Stroll – heard of it? Shop and Stroll is an annual event that brings shoppers of all ages, and interests to the Nob Hill area of town.

As many of you are aware of, Tractor Brewing has a tap room in Nob Hill. One of the two current Tractor Brewing locations sits on Tulane Ave. A mainstay for Shop and Strollers for years past, Tractor Brewing Nob Hill is thinking outside of the tap room with its efforts to get the community involved this year.

For one night only – Tractor Brewing and We Are This City, are teaming up and taking up residence in the old “A Store,” building. That’s right – the space next to Staples at 3339 Central Ave, will be filled with ART! 40 artists from around NM will be hanging on the walls, thanks to Max Baptiste and We Are This City. Also in the building will be up to a dozen local vendors: records, jewelry, art, and more! There will be a little something for everyone, with a vendor list that includes: Ooey Cucuy, Hi-Phy Records, James Montoya Arts, Sparrow, Cloudface, Kerry Bergen, Danny Hart, Ultimate Reality Design and so much more. There will simply and easily be something for everyone.

If fine crafts weren’t enough, what about craft beer too? That’s right – enjoy a pint while you pick out your Christmas gifts! Tractor Brewing will be serving up things you can’t find at our Nob Hill tap room, on this special night, and we will have acoustic entertainment as well. What sounds better than shopping with a beer in your hand? Nothing – right? Guess we will see you there!

PLEASE RSVP.

You won’t want to miss their crazy, amazing creations!

In September 2015, We Are This City hosted two community-driven events titled “ABQ BALLOON BLAST,” in which more than 70 youth and families participated. We invited community members to throw balloons filled with paint at a designated wall and 10 MDF panels in this celebratory exchange and art making event. The panels were then cut into 2×2’ sections and distributed, by invitation, to 75 local artists to add their creative flair.

The completed works were first exhibited in We Are This City’s pop-up show in Nob Hill, Albuquerque which 1,000+ people attended over two evenings in December 2015. They are currently being displayed in a Downtown Albuquerque gallery, where the art has been seen by an additional 2,500+ locals during private receptions.

We Are This City will be exhibiting these pieces at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco, CA on October 22nd from 7pm-2am. In this show, we will present 75 artworks by 75 champion artists from Albuquerque and the Albuquerque diaspora.

There will be music and drinks at the opening, too! It’s a party y’all!

Wake Self will be performing live and GALAXY will be on the 1’s and 2’s bringing the good vibes!
